Gracie's First Theater Experience

Garren and I took Gracie to see her first big screen movie today in Johnson City, TN...and she had the best time!!!

The three of us are in Tennessee this week for Thanksgiving, and on the ride up here (it's 6 hours, so we had plenty of time to think), we thought: what about taking Gracie to the theater to see "Happy Feet?"

It ended up being a great idea. Our wonderful neighbors the Mozingo's gave us some movie gift certificates for our anniversary, so we owe them a great deal of thanks for today's wonderful family "first."

We decided to attend the matinee (less crowded + before naptime) and we got there early so that Gracie would get to look around and be more comfortable with the theater before the lights went out. We opted for the large popcorn and a shared large drink and found our seats. Gracie was already very excited since we had told her that she was going to see a movie about dancing penguins...plus she had a popcorn larger than she was.

Since it was a weekday, we were 3 of maybe 20 in the whole theater, so that was nice. Gracie didn't get scared when the lights went off; her disappointment came from the 20 minutes of previews! It has been a while since I have been to the movies, but I don't remember having to wait that long to see the actual movie; then again I wasn't waiting with an excited 2 year old then either. Throughout the previews I kept trying to reassure her that the penguins were coming. At one point she started "penguins, where are you? I want to see you!" It was cute.

The movie proved to be adorable. Like most movies it had some "scary" parts, but Gracie handled them well. She even stayed in her seat for at least half of the movie before starting to get restless. We sat so we wouldn't bother other people, so her restlessness went unnoticed. Although, her father and I couldn't help smiling from ear to ear as she got up to "tap dance' through out the movie.

She really did enjoy the experience, and Garren and I were in parenting heaven. Gracie highly recommends the movie, and told her daddy and I repeatedly on the ride home "I love the dancing penguins!!!"

Thanks again Tom, Colette & Mallory for an amazing once in a lifetime family experience.
