We Are Off!

Well, we are off to a rousing start--Gracie woke up at 6am!

But, I am trying to set that aside and focusing on having a good drive to Virginia Beach, and an even better vacation.

Gracie, Grandma, and I are off to Sara's house for a week of fun in the sun. We will be without a computer, but once we return we will be sure to share plenty of adventures and pictures. If you need me--call me!

Enjoy your week too!

Stubbornly Refutes That She Hasn't Always Been The Center Of Our World

Gracie: " I like the pictures of your wedding mama."

Mommy: "Oh,thank you Gracie."

Gracie: "Did you hold my hand at your wedding?"

Mommy: "No sweetie, you weren't here yet."

Gracie: "Did you hold me in your lap?"

Daddy: "Gracie wasn't even here yet, you came 4 years later."

Gracie: "I got a big owie and that's why I wasn't there."

Mommy: (chuckling) "You got an owie?"

Gracie: "Yea, I tripped over your big long dress, and I got an owie. And I got in my car and drove home, that's why I missed your wedding." "But, then it was better and I came back."

Mommy: "So, did you like our wedding?"

Gracie: "Oh yea, it was beautiful!"

Quote Of The Week

"I like Jesus, he's cute! That's why I put on my Aurora dress, so I could dress up just for him."--Gracie

Circus Fun Day

Gracie and I made it a day at the circus.

I have been getting pretty good at coming up with themes for activities to do with her during the day. This one seemed to be a pretty good success.

I made circus themed games, and printed off circus themed activities. We did several crafts, read stories and then put on our own circus. She made quite an impressive high-wire princess I might add. She donned her Aurora costume and flew through the air to much applause.

I am not sure how I can top this one. I have a few other themes in mind like food, the zoo, and a wedding one I need some help with (she is obsessed with weddings, much like I was through most of being a little girl!)

Above; I made popcorn boxes and put capital letters on them. I put lower case on the popcorn and she had to put the right popcorn in the right box. Pretty ingenious huh! Actually, I'll take all the help I can get with those lower case letters--she struggles with them.

Below: Like our carousel? We decorated our own horses with markers and glitter glue and sparkly shapes. I think this was her favorite. As you can see she is dressed up as a "high flying princess." We also let the Little People put on their circus as well.

Happy Father's Day, Daddy

Can you believe I found a My Little Pony Father's Day card! I am not sure which one was happier.

Garren had a good day watching Clint Eastwood and the race after church. We had chicken on a stick for dinner, ice cream sundaes for desert and our neighbors came over and played Wii.

Gracie gave him a door knocker she made at school, along with the My Little Pony card, and a special gift I found bargain hunting. A vintage (and excellent condition) Indiana Jones book and record. We promised her we would play it soon. And, of course now he wants a new toy, a gadget that takes your records and records them to MP3's.

All in all, it was a very nice Father's Day.

Happy Father's Day

A day of happiness to all of the father's we know. We wish you a fun day with your families full of wonderful memories that you will be sure to cherish!

Cutest Movie

It has been storming here all day, so what better way than to spend a rainy day than to take your favorite four year old to the movies.

Garren and I took Gracie to one of the cutest movies we have ever seen: Kung Fu Panda. We opted for the matinée and a very large popcorn, and were quite pleased with the feature.

Gracie seemed to get in to it too. She didn't say much during the movie between enormous handfuls of popcorn, but on the ride home she started talking about the characters and what happened. She would get more and more excited as she explained what happened to the bad guy. Leave it to mommy, but I pointed out that no one asked the bad guy to "stop being bad, please." This got an eye roll from daddy, but I think kids need to talk things out first before taking matters into their own hands.

Don't let me talk you out of going though--it was hysterical, and it wasn't violent at all, just really funny and it had a cute lesson in the end.

Fun At The Pool

Gracie and I had a blast this afternoon at the pool with Colette and Mallory. We got plenty of sun too!

For the second time in 2 weeks I came home looking ike a lobster, even though I put on sunscreen--SPF 50!

Despite the slight burn, Gracie and I enjoyed our splashing and picnic with friends.

Gracie is also getting to be quite the little fish. Her fun in Mrs. Peggy's pool in Tennessee made her less scared, and more excited about spinning and splashing in deep waters.

Usually, Gracie is a big chicken when it comes the pool. It will take nearly all summer for her to start to feel comfortable outside of the kiddie pool, but this year it looks like we might break the chain.

Luau At Home

Everything is finally unloaded, and found some place to rest. So, what can we do with all of these beachy decorations? Have a luau of course.

I told Gracie yesterday that we could have one. We made a grass skirt out of a paper grocery bag, and I pulled out all of her leis from Bible School. So, when she got up from her nap yummy tropical snacks were waiting, and so were blown up beach balls (also courtesy of Bible School).

Gracie and I spent hours at our beach party tossing the balls, and snacking. She has her surf board and played with it yesterday, but she didn't surf today. Did I mention they made life sized surf boards at Bible School! I have no idea where I am going to store that, but she is especially proud of her artwork on it, and she will even show you the moves she learned in Tennessee.

Gracie has been in a beach mood for many days now. She is looking forward to going with mommy and Grandma here in a few weeks. She has a new Ariel swimsuit, and today we found a matching Ariel towel during our grocery shopping at Walmart.

Mommy also got to catch up on her bargain hunting. We got 2 games, one of those child-sized puzzles, 14 books, and the prettiest dress for Gracie, a soft aquarium toy, a new pony and more minatures all at my favorite thrift store.

Too Much Fun With Candice

...and Elliott and Lucie too.

I have so many pictures, I don't think I can choose which ones to post. So, I am making a special folder on Picasa of all the fun we had in Tennessee this week.

I know many of you (uh, Grandma) have been quite impatient to see pictures and see stories, and I appreciate your cooperation.

Bible School Graduation

Gracie has had so much fun this week in Tennessee. We spent the week at my friend Candice's and each night we went to her church for Bible School.

Preschool has done so much for my little wall flower. The first night she sat at the front with Candice and watched the puppet and participated and even went back with the kids as I stayed with the adults hoping to help her confidence. A few minutes later I was called back to find Gracie in tears. I stayed with her and her class that night, and we vowed to try again.

The rest of the week went smoothly. She made crafts, learned songs, colored and more all on her own. And the more the week went on, the more she participated in the group activities and the more friends she made. She was talking to the other kids and playing with them during free time.

So, by the last night, Gracie really had things down pat.

Of course, then I turn the camera on and she clams up again. Well, kind of. The last night was the big dinner and the graduation ceremony. Gracie's class had learned a little song to perform. When you watch you will notice she is standing up there, but she is the only child not singing. I can't really blame her though, participating is one thing--performing for a packed church is another.

Oh, but she had so much fun.

Below is the video from her graduation. Each child got a certificate, and plenty of goodies to take home after their song.
