The Smell Of Success
Have you ever smelled crayons, I mean a new pack? Oh how I love the smell of new crayons, and glue, and even freshly sharpened pencils. I know that is clearly weird.
While I dread the big "K" word for Gracie, I actually look forward to taking her to get all of the new things on her list. While she is in preschool she won't need any supplies since everything is provided, and I have to admit while it saves us money, its kind of a bummer.
I have always loved back to school time. Garren swears it was because I loved school. And, I did. I had lots of friends, I got good grades, and school work came easily to me, and most of the time I actually found it to be fun. Poor Garren on the other hand says he hated school and didn't have many friends because "I was a geek."
Based on Gracie's love of doing schoolwork with mommy each day, and the fact that she can't wait to go back to preschool--I am thinking she has more of me in her when it comes to learning. Now, don't get me wrong, you all know how brilliant Garren is (maybe a little too smart), but Gracie and I just enjoy the whole concept of school: shopping for new things, new dresses and clothes, shiny new shoes, friends, and recess. What isn't there to love?!
What got me on this kick? Opening a new box of crayons to color with Gracie that Grandma bought her. I loved the newness so much, I got her 4 more packs to replace her big tub o' crayons we use for tons of different projects every day.

I so love to smell new crayons. You would love my big cabinet of crayons, paper,pencils, and other supplies at school. It smells so good! It's one of the few things that smells good in public school. I loved school too. I nevered complained about doing the work. I even liked doing vocabulary definitions. Some of my kids gripe and complain over the least little assignment. I was a nerd I suppose. I was an "A-maker," and I suppose that's why it's hard for me to understand some of my kids!
