Play Ground Play Date

I may have already blogged about how the kids were supposed to get to play on the brand new playground for their hour of preschool Friday, but it was finished late and not inspected in time. So there were many disappointed little graduates.

The teachers suggested a play date at the school later on.

After trying to coordinate 11 schedules, we got every one on board for today.

Unfortunately the weather wasn't on board.

I emailed all the moms and told them that anything less than a downpour wasn't going to stand in my way of bringing a very excited Thomas to play today!

Thankfully the rain did hold off--for about an hour.

The kids didn't seem to care about the cloudy sky or the cool temperatures. And, I brought towels and mopped up the deep puddles on the slides.

All but one child was expected to be there, but we ended up with 7 out of 12. Which isn't bad considering the yucky weather.

When the drizzle did start to come down steady and heavy we went under the pavilion and had a snack.

It was a good morning, and Thomas and his friends had a great time despite the wet!

Change In Plans

In a good way.

Pediatrician (check)

Costco (check)

Sweet Frog (because it wasn't open after doctor's visit) (check)

Ridiculous heat (check)

Trip to Walmart (technically check)

On the way to get our second leg of grocery shopping done:

"Thomas, change in plans."

"I have an idea."

We park. We get out. We don't get past the gardening department. We check out and go home....with our brand new pool.

Oh yeah, this day needed to end with cool water fun.  Groceries can wait until tomorrow.

Gracie was thrilled to see that there was a reprieve from the heat awaiting her when she got off the bus this afternoon too.

Check Up Champ

He has been dreading it for weeks. In fact, he has had almost literal panic-attacks at odd intervals and run to his room yelling "I don't want to get shot-ed!"

I wasn't sure how this morning was going to go. This morning he woke up near tears knowing it was his 5 year old check up  day (Yes, I know he turned 5 in February, I had an appointment in Feb, the snow cancelled it, I took a really, really long time to reschedule).

I got him dressed and we talked about it for the millionth time.

Yes, it will hurt, but just for a second. You've got this!

We watched how Daniel Tiger handled his visit to the doctor on the ipad (he has been watching it all week) and we left the subject alone while I gathered all my stuff and got us ready and dressed.

He was in good spirits by the time we arrived since he had time to wind down and not think about it while he watched Paw Patrol.

They weighed and measured him, and he decided to show off during the eye test. When asked about shapes he said "circle, square, etc" and then when they got to the one that looked like a house and he says "trapezoid!" The nurses just balked.  My little show off!

He seemed more and more fine as he had an opportunity to impress the ladies.  So, by the time we went in the room he was thinking he was hot stuff.

We went through the typical exam and the asking of tons of questions, and then they took his blood. I wasn't prepared for this, but he didn't even flinch. I guess you can't worry about something they surprise you with. It was just a finger prick and little vile. He watched curiously. I didn't watch, because...well I think it would look bad for the mommy to pass out.

Mommy was thrilled to hear that Thomas finally broke the 50th percentile! In fact, he is now 75th in height (47') and weight (44.5 lbs). I can't tell you what a relief that is for me. I know I have blogged about it before, but having a first child that was literally off the charts since 3 months and then having a child who was significantly below average for all of his check ups (and who doesn't eat!!) makes a mama worry. Even when she knows she shouldn't.

There were more questions, a hearing test, and waiting, and then the shot time came.  For starters, kudos to these ladies. They get in and get it done and kids don't even have time to react. Not only that--this awesome nurse (that we have had before) climbed up on the cot and held him without me or Thomas even asking. What a great way to go the extra mile!

He was so proud to tell me that he watched and he didn't even cry. He even was sure to remind me several times the same thing we had been telling him for weeks. "It wasn't that bad."

The nurses and doctor made a fuss over him and they left. He got to pick a prize from the bucket and we found a red ATV just like Ryder's from Paw Patrol.

He handled it all like a champ. And, he had already been promised ice cream for his shots--so I would say it was a pretty good day for know besides getting three vaccines in his arms.

Mystery Seeds

Day 13

I noticed green spouts several days ago, but is has been so hectic around there with all the graduation and end of preschool stuff, that I didn't take the opportunity to show you.

What a better way to start our first week of "just the two of us" than to chart the growth of our mystery seeds?!

It will be just Thomas and I until June 12th. So, while I am feeling over emotional about losing him all day every day in a few months--I can switch gears for at least the next 2 weeks and 2 days and absorb every minute with just me and my little man.

Day 1

Education opportunity!

I found a printable seed growth chart online, so we are going to learn measurement and inches and anything else these three seeds can teach us!  (we are using the tallest one to chart growth)

Pew-Sharing Among Preschool Friends

I told you it wouldn't be last time we saw preschool friends.

Thomas was so excited that Rebecca's mom asked if she could sit with us this morning during our service since she had a talk to give, and her husband was running sound for the 11:15

Rebecca and Thomas were in heaven sharing a pew, and swapping stories and taking turns with the hymnal.

We took Thomas' new Bible that he received at graduation with us this morning.  He was so enthralled with it. There is nothing more special than watching your child excitedly flip through a Bible and ask you to "read this part."

We have many Bibles here in the house and he has an assortment of baby and toddler versions, but this one was given specifically to him and he has a whole new interest in what's inside.

Rebecca sat with us until children's time, and then she and Gracie and Thomas all went up front for a kids lesson about freedom, and came back with a flag.  We will have to wave our flags and take pictures for Memorial Day tomorrow.

Thank you Keri for sharing your beautiful girl with us this morning, if only for a little while.

Saturday At The Cages

Is that what they say?

Eh, close enough.

We aren't a sporty family, but every once in a while daddy gets the urge to attempt something athletic with the kids.

And, they are unfortunately like their mama, and not remotely athletically inclined--but they seem to have fun trying.

Bonus Preschool Day

While the school listed today as the "last day of preschool," I really counted that more on Wednesday. Today the kids were dropped off as usual at 9, but we parents came to have a pot-luck lunch with them after they were all downstairs for  magic show at 10.

Of course I said "we parents," but you shouldn't be surprised that I cam in early in a last attempt to share some last time, and last minute preschool moments with my Thomas.

And, I am glad I did (well, of course I am) as I got to go with them to library. Three years at this church, and I had no idea where the library was. It is such a cute place! And, the kids were treated to a last ride on the elevator.  I still remember Thomas coming home from 3 year old preschool class and telling me about the "alligator." Took me weeks to figure out what in the world he was talking about.  He loves getting to ride the "el-agator" with his class, and I just had to get a snap shot of that.

I had just come a few minutes early, so I walked with them to the gym where they sat in rows for the magic show.

Thomas kind of had an idea of how it would all end as we saw this magician last summer at the library.  But, he still seemed to enjoy himself.  And, he and his friends got to pet the bunny in the end.

The kids gathered to say a last preschool mealtime prayer before we found seats with our precious ones to enjoy a lunch.

It was a nice way to say farewell to the school and friends.  But, Thomas nor I said the word "goodbye" once.

I can't say it. It is too hard, and really it is a lie.

I can't imagine that this will be last time Thomas sees his buddies, or his teachers. That would truly be too sad.

I didn't take a ton of pictures during and after lunch, but I did have the idea to gather our 3 year old class alumni together and snap  picture. All 7 of those friends were there today, and it was neat to see them all sitting together--still friends even though they ended up in different classes this year.

*I also found a bulletin board in front of the main office with the cutest hand print owls, so I had to snap a picture of Thomas' :) ***

End Of The Year Goodies

My kitchen counter is littered with all the amazing things that came home last night, and today with Thomas.

His teachers, and the school were so generous with gifts. He received a Bible, and two picture books: all inscribed with notes from Mrs. Tammy & Mrs. Kim.

He gets to keep his tassel, and just in case I didn't get enough pictures from this school year, we were give a photo book full of day to day activities caught on film!

In addition to the gifts, he also received his diploma, and end of the year progress report.

They sent home two sweet self portraits, one he made at the beginning of the year, the other at the end.

Plus a myriad of other precious precious keepsakes for Thomas (well, really me :)

And, I just love that they added a thing of bubbles, and left this note:

That was their reminder to be quiet. Love it!
