Middle School Orientation

It is too early for this. TOO early!!

I am all to aware that Gracie is in 5th grade and the next stage begins a whole new school and new friends and new challenges and so much new drama....but seriously, it is December! I have 6 more months to go before I even should have to start think about this!

But, since I have no control over the Hanover County School calendar, we went.

Poor Gracie has been in tears at least twice last week. Apparently all they seem to talk about it what will happen "when you get to middle school."  It is a lot scary, and quite a bit overwhelming for most kids to handle, but our Gracie isn't "most" kids and she is having a particularly hard time.  Like me, she wants to focus on the job and time at hand.  She also is my worrier, and we will continue to encourage and lift her up (and calm her down) as we face this impending adventure together.

Grace (who is always awesome!) took Thomas for the evening so Garren and I could concentrate on Gracie.  When we arrived they divided us up and we dropped a very clingy Gracie in the gymnasium before heading to the cafeteria for the parents orientation.

A very uncomfortable daddy twitched in his seat as he relived middle school nightmares while I frantically tried to remember everything they were talking about.

I think we were in there for about an hour, and I felt a little relieved for Gracie since we saw a few MES friends from Mrs. Madison's class also being led in by their parents before we walked back down the hall.

Gracie seemed excited when we found her again and she told us they heard the band perform and went into a few classrooms.

Garren and I got more technical information in our "briefing," but honestly I think the orientation helped calm everyone's nerves about the next school year.

In fact, Gracie was still smiling when we got to the car and she admitted "I am not as nervous about middle school now."

Prayers answered.

Which totally calls for an ice cream stop.

In the meantime, I have decided we did the middle school thing and I am done concentrating on it until at least May!
