Happy Birthday House

Happy Birthday house.

A year ago today we signed on the bottom line and claimed you as our own. I can’t think of anything I have wanted in my lifetime as much as children—as you.

We fell in love with you, furnished you, and covered your purple doors with Methodist red.

Your walls have heard our laughter, our tears, tantrums, and sibling shouting matches. You have housed our children, our parents, our friends and extended family.

You have survived Nerf wars, a toddler, stomach bugs, shower leaks, three kids of your own and countless kids from the neighborhood.

You stood tall for birthday parties, furniture shuffles, rouge pens at the hand of a baby, dinner fails, slammed doors, and a long list of “firsts.”

We waited so long for you, and now we will cherish you and every moment we have above your foundation.

You were meant for us, and we for you.

Thank you for keeping us warm, safe, dry, and all our memories inside.

Happy Birthday house. Our first year is just the beginning. And inside you—we have God and each other.

***the hand drawn picture was inside a handmade paper card from a sweet little girl at our house blessing last May. It showed our family inside our new house. I carefully cut the picture out and found a frame and now it hangs in our kitchen. ****
