And Three Days Later

...we were done ;)

Thomas helped Gracie put the last pieces in the 1000 piece

puzzle this afternoon, a project she and I had been working on since Tuesday after school.

I scored the puzzle at the Goodwill, and I don't usually buy something like that at a thrift store as you don't know if all the pieces are inside, but it was a half off item, and so colorful and fun looking.  So, at a little over a $1 I jumped.

Gracie has always loved puzzles. She and I have done more than I care count, and at one time we had a MASSIVE collection of kids puzzles that I would find at thrift stores and yard sales.  In recent years we have given away most of the collection, but they were all assembled at least once at our house.  I have saved a several for Thomas, hoping he will enjoy that one on one quiet time with me.

Missing those days, I showed Gracie what I found and we got right to work.  We let the pieces and the mess lay on the kitchen table for days, covering it for dinner.

It reminded both of us of how she would help Aunt Ruth and Grandma Gertrude when we visited Gertrude's house in Strasburg.  There was always a puzzle ongoing under the table cloth. Gracie always felt so important to help fit those pieces together after lunch or dinner while we were visiting.  It remains a wonderful memory for the both of us.

PS: It was missing ONE Piece. Disappointing, but not bad for a thrift store find! Gracie is already excited about finding and completing another one!  And as she points out:
"I am not even 12!!"  (the box says 12+ ;)
