Last Sol & New Summer Reads
While Thomas was riding the church bus with glee last night, daddy was taking Gracie to the Barnes & Noble night/book fair for her school.
Being a good daddy he bought her two new books to finish off a series she fell in love with a few months back. So, she is excited to read--again. I love seeing her excited to read--it has been quite the book roller coaster with this smart lady! She loved to read until 2nd grade, and then it was like pulling teeth, and now we have our battles over reading until something comes along that she really wants to read. So, she has a little of me in her. I could spend all of my days and evenings as a child in a book. My mother tells me she had to kick me out of the house just so I would get fresh air. Of course, most of the time I just took the book outside with me.
The new books were a reward (somewhat) for keeping up with chores, and more so for a good school year and the survival of her first SOL's. (I didn't tell her that Jill ;)
And, she has survived! Today was her last SOL, and I wanted to publicly thank all of you who responded to my cry for well wish cards. She got so many she was able to open 2 or more each testing day--that was more than 12 total! Thank you so much for showing her the love.
Now that third grade and SOL's are under her belt, I feel like she is a stronger student and will be able to handle the challenges of 4th grade. But, I am not promoting her yet--I've got 5 more school days as the mommy of a third grader and I will hold fast!
