Little Hearts, Big Love
Valentine's and love were the theme of the day for story time at the library, and my son couldn't have shown more love, and this mama couldn't have loved him more as I watched.
Mrs. Carolyn: "Does any one have some one they love?"
Without missing a beat Thomas twists his head and points straight at Paige sitting right next to him, and the same time she looks at him. He says out loud "her!"
The two preschool friends spend much of the rest of story time like this.
They took a break when Mrs. Carolyn read a story and had the kids participate. It was the sweet book Never Too Little To Love by Jeanne Willis, and the kids placed items on the felt board as the little mouse tried to reach the person he loved the most who was way, way up high.
The last page of the book is too precious, and if you aren't careful it will make tear up, or at least think about it.
The object of the mouse's love, is his friend giraffe. Seeing that the mouse can not reach him for a hug/kiss, he bends his neck and leans down and kisses the mouse on the head.
It ends with the line "even if you are tiny, you are never too little for love." How true, and how important to remember that our little ones have little bodies but big hearts, and thus they love big, and can feel big heart break as well.
We wrapped up the story time half hour with a craft. They were to make a Valentine for someone, anyone, they wanted.
Thomas knew exactly who to make his for, and he never thought twice and set straight to work.
His masterpiece--for his best friend Bryce.
