Egg Hunting, Without The Eggs

Yep, you read it correctly :)

Gracie really wanted to go to the "Egg Hunt" that was going on at her school today, and we had a million other errands and activities to do, but we told her if there was time we would go.

Lucky for Gracie, daddy wanted to see the new Captain America movie, so I took the kids to the egg hunt sponsored by a local church.

When we arrived there were games, and inflatables, animals, performances, candy...but no eggs.

I had grabbed the kids Easter buckets not sure if it was a bring-your-own kind of activity, and it was, so I am glad I was prepared.

After playing a few games, Gracie found best friend Clara at the petting zoo area. So, now those two were attached at the hip and having a great time, and I was Thomas' buddy.

They divided the kids into three groups. Thomas would go first to hunt for candy in the toddler/preschooler hunt.  They scattered candy all around the Kindergarten fenced in playground at the top of the hill. They let the kids go, and mine went--straight for the slide.  Gracie kept shouting at Thomas "pick up the candy!!" but he wasn't interested.  I think he was confused. He thought he was supposed to find eggs, and didn't get that he was just supposed to pick up the candy that was tossed everywhere. So, he got very little, and wanted to stay in and play.

I made him come out as the Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd graders were getting their hunt set up.  We bought some time going down the inflatable slide while the girls ran off and played more games.

Then, the third, fourth & fifth graders were up.  Well, there weren't a lot of them, so they each got a LOT of candy. And they made things more exciting by firing off candy cannons and the kids scrambled for even more sugar as it rained down over their heads!

Of course, these girls were already making candy swaps at the end of the hunt despite the fact their buckets and baskets were nearly overflowing!

We took another round through the animals, and then this happened.

Yes, that is MY girl in an inflatable grudge match with her best friend. Clara talked her into this, and I am glad she had fun, but I would never have seen that coming!

It was a good afternoon despite the lack of actual plastic eggs, and then sunburn.  It was the first real outdoor activity since fall, and I am out of practice with remembering sunscreen.  I think that will change immediately!

Looks like a fun sunny day! Our church egg hunt is tomorrow, and I hope to take J if she feels better.
