Ice Cream Social

Tonight was our first Back To (Big) School event.

The kids elementary school hosted an ice cream social. I think it has been a couple of years since we have gone, but the PTA puts it on and it is usually out in the courtyard, but the rain decided to make things tricky tonight. So, a lot kids, and even more parents crowded into the hot cafeteria.

Of course, crowded or not, it didn't take long for my kids to find their friends.

Gracie had a mini-4th grade reunion with Abby, Mary Gray and Carrissa all there at the same time. I guess they will have a mini-reunion on Meet the Teacher night too since they all loop into 5th grade together. Have I mentioned how excited I am that Gracie keeps her amazing teacher and all of her all-girls class friends for another year?!

Being new to the school, Thomas had just one friend--so far. But these two best buddies could find each other in a crowd of hundreds I am pretty sure.

I am overly excited (and less stressed) knowing that efforts are being made to get these two in the same class for this first year of school.

The assistant principal also stopped me while I was there to let me know that plans for Cardinal Camp are in the making. Since we started Gracie in 1st grade, I didn't know anything about it until Grace told me, but there is camp each year for Kindergarten students so they can get used to the bus and the schedule and the classrooms and rules. Well, renovations cancelled the camp, but they are planning a mini-version. Grace and I are so excited the boys won't miss out on this intro to Kindergarten
