First Days Of School
They are off.
One big 5th grader, and one not so small Kindergartener.
Both kids bounded out of bed this morning and barely ate 3 bites of breakfast each.
I love that they love school. It makes my heart happy, and despite the less than dry face I am battling today, it does make it easier to let go at the end of each summer.
You would think that Thomas would be the most excited, but I think Gracie took that medal by a hair and a half. She practically bounced out of bed, downstairs and didn't complain about getting her hair done!
In fact, both were so ready in their "perfect" first day of school clothes and new shoes that we had 10 minutes to kill before I finally let them out the door (to wait another 15 for the bus).
Both kids, used to mommy's incessant need for photographs, stood sill and smiled for the multitude of pictures I "needed" to take.
And, I did take a lot.
We walked down to the bus stop, where a car was parked :( It was a new family with their first time school-goer. She will be in Kindergarten too.
I moved my kids over to an area to take better shots (and I will try and go back and get my street sign shots when they get off the bus), and we waited and waited and waited.
I knew the bus would be super late on the first day, but, my excited students could not stay inside a moment longer.
When the bus finally pulled up Gracie grabbed his hand and started pulling him on, robbing me of my hug and kiss and goodbye moment.
I guess it was for the best, as I had promised myself that I wouldn't cry until the walk back up the cul-de-sac. And, I didn't. I was doing fine until he waved to me from inside the bus.
Goodbye my loves. I will see you this afternoon, and I will try not to cry (too much) for the first day I have ever lived without both of you in this house.
