5th Grade Recorder Concert
This end of the year stuff is keeping us busy...and very proud.
Gracie and her 5th grade classmates finally had their recorder concert tonight.
I say "finally" because they started learning to play the recorder in music class starting in 4th grade!
While I can't say I am a fan of 10 and 11 year olds squeaking their way through several songs on a high pitched instrument. I have to admit I am quite impressed that they can not only play these instruments at their young ages, but they did all the songs from memory. Not a single piece of sheet music to be seen!
Gracie collected all the color ribbons over her two years of practice. Mrs. Baird calls it "recorder karate" and they earn colored "belts" as they master a new level. Only those who earned their "black" belts were allowed to perform tonight. And, as an added bonus they were given "gold belts" as well before they performed.
So proud of our musical 5th grader!
