Building Super-Star
We go every month to our local Home Depot to participate in the Kids Workshop. It has been a fun family tradition for many years, and this month was just as fun as all the rest. The kids made wooden boats. Looked a lot like a Mayflower or tall ship. Perfect for the November holiday.
As the kids were showing the Home Depot people their masterpieces and picking up their free snacks and certificates, a lady asked me how many pins Gracie had on her.
Gracie is SUPER proud of her pins and says she feels like a Girl Scout.
We kind of shrugged it off thinking they were just impressed, when she asks if she has 25. Garren says "probably more like 30."
The other lady reaches down and pulls out a special pin and hands it to Gracie. It is a star for 25 builds!! And, guess what--there is one for 50 builds as well.
Gracie has actually enjoyed this monthly challenge since she was 5. I was looking for something special just for her to do now that "Gracie time" was limited thanks to a new baby brother.
Well, I took her to her first Home Depot build, where she made an adorable wagon--still one of my favorite projects--but after that it was something that she got to do with Aunt Ruth & Uncle George. It became their special time, and as you can imagine it was an extra time to spoil her rotten.
When we moved, it was back to just me or daddy, or both of us taking her. But she has always enjoyed it.
When we got home, I had to rearrange her pins so that the star could go at the top. As I rearranged and made them nice and neat, I counted...38 pins! She is 12 away from 50. That is just one more calendar year of building.
While I was at it, I went ahead and made Thomas' apron look pretty too. Can you believe he has 23?! So, he just needs 2 more to get his first star!
Thomas wasn't nearly as in to the Kids Workshops as his big sister, in fact most of those pins are for projects that his father or I did for him while he cried or ran around. His first build was in April of 2011 at age 2, so you can see why. But, he is in to it now. And he really enjoys the building. He isn't great at it--but he wants to try and we are very proud of that.
We are proud of both of the kids, but we want to celebrate Gracie's special achievement. Way to go on your star Gracie!
