Our Isaac

We are so proud of our nephew Isaac! He is officially a Marine!

He left for boot camp at Parris Island, SC in April and graduated this past weekend.

We had planned to attend the graduation ceremony, but my brother called, and told us how difficult the trip was an had concerns that we would even be able to find our favorite graduate since we weren't leaving until the day of.  So, with a lot of heavy heart and head, we decided that the best thing for our family (kids) was to not take the very long and very quick trip and instead come to Danville and really see and visit him while he was home for his first 10 day leave.

The kids and I left around noon from Mechanicsville and headed on the 3 hour drive to Danville to see Isaac and the other cousins.

We made him a camo cake, and a small gift and card in hand.

I didn't say anything to the kids, but I have to admit I was wondering what our regular loving goof-ball would be like after the military got a hold of him. I know they do wonderful things and turn boys into men. After all they did that with my brother which is nothing short of a miracle. But, it changes them.  Imagine my surprise and we arrived at Uncle Brian's house to find our favorite goofball being the same Ike we know and love. In fact, the only things different were his tan line, he was many pounds skinnier (which is scary considering how thin he was to begin with), and he was wearing matching clothes (military green).

From the time we arrived, he ate cake off the floor, sat on his sister, snuck out his dad's new guitar and amp, climbed a tree, and taught Thomas all sorts of new phrases (that mommy is NOT happy about)! That's our Isaac.

He will head to NC to Fort Geiger on Sunday and he will be stationed there for 29 days. After that he thinks his next destination will be California.

I asked him what he was training for, what his job would be, and he said a lot of words in a row.  After he saw the confused expression on my face he told me "I point and say 'shoot there!'"

Isaac is such a good young man, and I think his dad (Uncle Brian) is proud of him for following in his Marine footsteps.  And, we are super proud of him for all he has accomplished and all he will further accomplish.

Follow your heart, use your head, and trust in God and you will continue to do good things.

We are so proud of you!
